Kotaro Tamura is a Japanese anime director and storyboard artist known for his ability to balance delicate emotional storytelling with dynamic visual direction. His work is distinguished by nuanced character portrayals, expressive scene composition, and a strong sense of rhythm that enhances both dramatic and action-driven sequences. Active across television series, theatrical films, and music videos, Tamura consistently brings out the unique tone and appeal of each project he contributes to.
He gained wide recognition as the director of Noragami Series, where he skillfully expanded the series’ world and deepened its character dynamics. He also contributed storyboards and direction to the opening sequences of Bungo Stray Dogs and its second season, creating visually striking and memorable introductions to the series. His storyboard work extends to major theatrical productions such as Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! and My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, demonstrating his versatility on large-scale projects.
In film, Tamura served as director, storyboard artist, and co-director on Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, earning critical acclaim for its emotional depth and visual storytelling. He has also contributed notable storyboard and direction work to series such as Land of the Lustrous and SK∞.
More recently, he has been involved in projects including Trigun Stargaze and Leviathan as a director, as well as directing the Valkyrie music video for Ensemble Stars!!, further showcasing his range across different formats and styles.
