costuming, sci-fi convention!
Catherine Jones is an award winning seamstress and has been the proud owner of God Save the Queen Fashions, LLC, an Atlanta based costuming company, since 2004. Growing up as the daughter of a seamstress, she has always had a deep desire to create magic with fabric.
She studied costume design at Emory University and has done work for Theater Emory as well as Georgia Shakespeare. Upon exiting college, Catherine began doing work with nationally known Atlanta-based female impersonators, most notably the infamous Charlie Brown! She attended her first anime convention in in 2007, and has been hooked on cosplay costuming ever since! She now spends her work week creating custom costumes and wigs for anime fans, comic connoisseurs, and convention attendees alike!
Catherine's work has been seen on CollegeHumor, Cosmode Magazine, Kotaku.com, Mydisguises.com, and Gizmodo.com.
Harrison Krix is an Atlanta based prop artist focused mostly on videogame replicas. His works have been published in XBOX, Playstation, and PC Gamer magazines, as well as several other international publications. Despite being relatively new to the world of cosplay and replica work, Harrison has been a craftsman his entire life and recently has won several costuming awards in the southeast over the past couple of years. You can see some of his replica work on his blog, Volpin Props
Meredith Placko, known to many in the convention world as Ana Aesthetic, is a journalist with a passion for costume making. She has been cosplaying since the late 90s, and her love for the hobby caused her to seek a degree in Fashion Design. Though she returned to the world of broadcast news, Meredith never stopped making costumes, and the skills she learned in fashion college only helped her with a better understanding of garment design and construction.
Meredith believes in putting her all into her creations, and is humbled that her work has been recognized across the world in print and on television, and by her fellow costumers. She enjoys sharing the tricks and tools of the trade she has learned over the years, but also focuses panels on what it means to cosplay. Through her decade plus experience as a cosplayer, Meredith has learned a lot about making friends (and costumes!) and believes that this should be an inclusive hobby that should accept everyone, and she speaks openly about her good (and bad) experiences in hopes that fellow costumers will continue cosplaying for the love of it.
By day Meredith works for NBC News and writes for Geeks Are Sexy. Meredith lives in Atlanta with her hipster roommate, five cats, beta fish, pair of snails and a moss ball named Dr. Kreiger with his virtual, hot pink plant, girlfriend.
"Thank you for inviting me back to MomoCon this year! I'm excited to see this convention grow and am really looking forward to this year's show! I look forward to seeing all the amazing costumes people have in store this year, and actually getting to cosplay as well! Due to work circumstances, I didn't get a chance to wear a costume last year, but everyone who attended my panels were very forgiving of that fact. I hope to to be an equally good teacher this year, and I have some wonderful things in store! See you all very soon!"
Riddle - *CANCELED*
Costumer
Riddle was born and raised in Canada. Introduced to gaming and anime at an early age, it was only a matter of time before she would find a unique way to express her fandom: cosplay. Each costume presents its own set of challenges, requiring her to learn new skills like translation, sculpting, molding, casting and of course, sewing. What started out as a hobby, has now led to many unique opportunities such as getting to work various films and commercials. She is also the creator of Cosplay for a Cause, A charity cosplay calendar, which donated100% of the proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross tsunami disaster relief.
When she isn’t working on her costumes, she is in her kitchen trying to create a “super solider serum filled” doughnut, or talking to her robot therapist about video games.
2012 marks Envel's first decade of cosplay. She has shown her love for dozens of her favorite anime and video game characters via cosplay in those ten years; from classics such as Slayers and Sailor Moon to new fan favorites such as BlazBlue and Odin Sphere. With more than a few craftsmanship awards under her belt, her favorite aspects of cosplay are the planning and construction processes; no detail is too small to be appreciated, and she's excited to be a part of MomoCon's cosplay family this year!
